Gale McMillan began producing stocks in 1973 to give himself a competitive edge in the highly demanding sport of benchrest shooting. Upon seeing his success and seeing the clear advantage of his stock design, other competitors began asking him if he could make stocks for them as well.

From these roots, the McMillan name grown into one of the most well-known and respected brands in the firearms industry. 2021

McMillan Stocks becomes part of the Extreme Group.

2016

McMillan works with F-TR and ELR communities to develop the Kestros, X-IT, and ELR Beast stocks.

2004

McMillan Stocks designs its first Carbon Fiber stock, the Hunter’s Edge.

1983

McMillan Stocks purchases its first CNC milling machine, allowing for development of drop-in-ready precision inletting.

1983

The USMC asks McMillan Stocks to create a stock for their match-grade M14 rifles, which becomes the M1A competition stock.

1975

McMillan Stocks works with the USMC to help develop an all-weather sniper rifle platform, creating the M40a1.

1975

McMillan Stocks designs its first hunting rifle stock, the General Purpose Hunting Stock, which would later become the HTG.

1974

Gale founds McMillan Fiberglass Stocks and begins selling stocks to the competitive benchrest shooting community.
